Farm History

See some photos of what our farm used to look like:

According to an article by Peter Hamilton, Frederick Fairman purchased this lot in 1815. His son, Wallice (or Wallace), took possession of the property in 1823 and operated an inn. Fairman's Inn became an essential carriage stop for travelers journeying between Montreal and Toronto.

It is believed that the present dwelling was built in 1851, replacing an earlier frame structure on the site. However, the discovery of the date 1837 written on one of the interior walls has led to uncertainty about the exact time of construction.

Over the years, the house has had several owners. In the 1940s and 50s, it once again served the public as a tourist home.

Now designated as a heritage house, it stands as a solid and aesthetically pleasing reminder of the area's rich and fascinating history.
